Artwork - Printing (Bags/Film)
We would like to switch to Advanced Poly and have printing plates that we have purchased. Can you use our existing plates? |
Advanced Poly printing presses use cameras to precisely mount the printing plates which are “stepped” to run multiple across and around the cylinder. Often, the plates we receive were not produced to this specification and as a result don’t produce the precise registration customers are used to receiving from Advanced Poly. While we can and often do use printing plates which are supplied, in many cases the printing plates need to be replace by the time we receive them due to age or improper handling or storage. In these cases, Advanced Poly offers discounts and offers free artwork manipulation and proofs. Also, and most importantly, if Advanced Poly provides printing plates and there is an issue with the plates, Advanced Poly pays to reproduce the damaged plate. If supplied, Advanced Poly does not have the ability to reproduce the printing plate and we must stop production. It’s always a good idea to create artwork to match todays plate-making standards and also for specific plate mounting and proofing machinery. So, if you were thinking about revising your artwork, we can assist with that also. To consult with our Bag Sales Staff, please submit any questions to BagSales@Advancedpoly.com or use the Contact Us form (Bag Sales). Or, just call us ! |

Bags (Sizes - Features - Capabilities)
How about liquids? Can you bags contain liquids? Can you systems be used in liquid applications? |
Advanced Poly normally tries to stay away from liquid applications. However, we do have customers who use our bags and bagging systems where they might add some water (injection molded products), or use the bag to act as a method to contain leaks from bottles. But, the bags are not designed to contain liquids; in other words, they may leak! We do, however, even with all the warnings, concerns, and disclaimers, choose to give it a try. Those who do keep purchasing bags, so it must be working for them, but we also don't know all of their requirements. The customer is solely responsible for taking due diligence in determining if our products are well suited to their applications. We handle so many various inquiries, we cannot be experts on all products that are bagged. We will, however, promptly provide samples for your testing, and run samples on our machinery. We often video the equipment in operation running these products and then send the samples produced to the customer for their testing. We are often surprised by how our equipment is used! |
Do you offer barrier films for products that emit odors? |
Yes, APP can provide film and bags that have an effective barrier against aroma and gas, and as such, also act as a flavor barrier. |
Do you offer different colors of films so I can identify my products easier? |
Yes, APPI offers a variety of stock and custom colors. These can be implemented either as an opaque color, or as a tint. Contact one of our Bag Specialists at 800.754.4403 for a friendly consultation and a prompt quote. |

Bags (Warranty - Guarantee - Quality)
I need to return two rolls of bags. What is the procedure? |
Although Advanced Poly has a Performance Guarantee for bags (see Documents / Category: Sales / Performance Guarantee – Bags), unfortunately you will experience some issues with openings or other quality issues at some point – it’s just the nature of the product. Our goal, when you do have product that does not perform, is to make the process as simple as possible. But, we do need some basic information initially so we can identify the product so we can review the production information.
The first step is to report the information which is printed on the side-plate of the roll, or the label on the box which has the LOT # and ROLL#. You could simply send us a photo of the side-plate. And, while you have your or camera, take some photos that illustrate the issues you are experiencing. Then, email the photos and information to: QC@advancedpoly.com. Please also describe the issues as best you can and also how it affects your bagging operations. It would also be helpful to tell us your machine model number. After we receive your information and have reviewed our production reports and documents, we may call you to discuss the issue and advise you how we wish to proceed. In most cases, we can immediately recommend a course of action, whether that be isolation or simply setting aside rolls with the same issue. While we don’t want you to inspect bags, we may want you to set rolls aside based on the consecutive roll numbers which we use specifically to isolate bags. In most cases, only one or two rolls may be affected and more importantly, it may bejust 25 feet or so of film which may have been setup scrap that mistakenly got wound onto the roll. If that is the case, we may ask that you unwind the roll and if you see a splice, that is exactly what happened. If we determine that the issue may be throughout the roll, we will advise how best to proceed. Again, in most cases, based on the type of issue we can provide isolation procedures so you can continue production with no down-time involved. In rare cases, based on the complaint, the entire order may be affected. If this occurs, we will produce the order again but with procedures in place to correct the issue. Also, in rare cases, the customer may not agree with our determination, but we promise we will work with you so you are satisfied with the outcome. This mainly occurs when the reported issue involves the machine and possible service issues which in our opinion may be causing the issue. If that were to occur, we will troubleshoot the bags by running them on a machine and ifwe confirm the machine is the issue, our Service Department will be notified to contact you to assist. And when we do, that service is at no charge! Because we don’t guarantee every bag will blow open, we often ask that bags with opening issues be used in hand-loading applications and in most bagging applications our customers are hand-loading bags as well as using the bags on bagging systems. But, if the bags are not usable and have a defect, we will either replace or credit the bags. Advanced Poly must issue a Return Authorization (RMA) and when you receive the form, please read the instruction for the return of the product. Upon receipt, we will inspect, rework, or replace the bags. For bags that we find have no issues, we will return those bags to you. For bags that cannot be reworked and based on the custom nature and quantity,it is not be economical to replace, we will simply issue a credit. Please do not discount or reduce invoice amounts until you have received an Invoice. Also, don’t use an RMA to debit our invoices. This will lead to issues where our accounts don’t match, causing potential A/R and credit issues. While it is impossible with thisproduct line to eliminate issues, and since we know at some point you will have an issue with our bags, it is our goal to deal with the issue promptly, professionally, and painlessly. If you wish to discuss any issues you are having, please don’t hesitate to call: 330-785-4000 and ask for the QC Dept. You can also speak with your Account Manager at Advanced Poly who will work with QC personnel. |
How do I reduce the amount of air in the bag with my product? |
Air in the bag is often a problem when shipping in smaller containers to reduce shipping costs. Advanced Poly offers several solutions to reduce air including adding options for the equipment, changing machine settings and making improvements to the bag for venting. Options: Bag Deflators: Advanced Poly offers rubber loop, sponge, and customized pneumatically operated Bag Deflators to assist in pushing air from the bag during loading. Available for both Tabletop and T-1000 Models. Flat Seal Assembly: Fingers pull the bag sideways thus pulling the front and back layers together to push out the air. Possible Solutions Machine Settings: Delayed Seal Bar activation to allow air to dispel from the bag. Lower air volume of the blower and air pulse. Gaps created in the Seal Rubber so the Bagger seals has gaps. Pin hole (tacks) on idler rollers have been added by customers; not elegant, but effective! Bag Features: Vent Holes: Lots of choices from punched vents (not recommended due to chips in the bags), non-punched vent holes (chip remains attached), pin vents, slit vents… Skip Seals: Manufactured bottom seal bar can be changed out on our production machines to include gaps in the seal. This also tends to strengthen the bag and film is not weakened during the sealing operation. Perforations: Easy-open perfs also tend to allow air to escape in addition to acting as an easy-open feature for the consumer. Advanced Poly recommends a horizontal perf close to the production bottom seal instead of vertical perforations as the vertical perfs can tear during loading and also tend to hinder testing of side-seals in production. Contact Advanced Poly to discuss the available options for your system and/or applications. |

Who do I send sample product in for testing? |
Advanced Poly technical sales department performs product evaluations daily. To give us the opportunity to determine bag specifications and/or equipment specifications, please send your sample product to: Advanced Poly-Packaging, Inc., Attn: Machine Sales, 1360 Exeter Road, Akron, OH 44306 USA. Lead time for testing may vary depending on availability of systems and installed options & accessories which may be required to process your parts. Advanced Poly does not, however, test your product to determine if our bags, machinery, or other products are "fit for purpose". In other words, we will not tell you that the package will perform to any level, or meet any of your requirements. We will, however, suggest the bag size, features, film type, film thickness, method of loading, method of packaging, etc. More importantly, we will provide samples (upon request) for your testing so that you can confirm that the equipment, method, bags, or other materials are well suited to your application and meet all requirements for performance, speed, accuracy, durability, shelf life, security, etc. To assist us with in determine your requirements, please also complete and return our Product Evaluation Form which is available for download in our Documents section (see Tab - Documents) on our web site pages. Will Advanced Poly build a custom bagging system for us? We need a bagger that is integrated to our production machine? |
Advanced Poly specializes in custom systems, many of which are perfectly integrated to production machines (assembly, stamping, molding, etc.). We have accessories to validate bag opening, seals and the overall function of the machine. We design customized infeed systems, chutes, diverters or whatever accessory is required. Our design staff will provide a 3D model of the system so you know exactly what you will receive. Our programmers will provide a detailed sequence of operation for your confirmation. If you have third party equipment, our staff will contact that company directly to obtain the information required (drawings, schematics) and discuss the application in detail so our systems are perfectly integrated. While we prefer to integrate the systems ourselves, at our facility, we often connect the systems on site with minimal issues based on the diligence and attention to detail from our technical sales and engineering staff. To consult with our staff to discuss your application, please submit any questions to MachSales@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Machine Sales). Or, call to discuss your application: 330-785-4000. |

Lastly, you can rely on our free phone support, off-the-shelf parts strategy, and ease of maintenance machine design to keep your machine running with little or no training from your maintenance staff. Advanced Poly stands by every system sold and we guarantee our bags to work not only our equipment, but also our competitor’s equipment. Advanced Poly also offers free product evaluations, guaranteed performance contracts and upgrade programs so you can feel assured that no matter you are or what you decide to purchase, we will do our best to fully support our products. Call our Technical Sales Department to discuss your equipment or bag requirements. Please submit any questions to MachSales@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Machine Sales). |
Your equipment looks nice but possibly over my budget, do you have anything for someone just starting out? |
Advanced Poly has a complete line of tabletop bagging systems, starting with our “entry-level” T-200 and T-275 model, and working up to our more functional and faster T-300 and T-375 models. If you require more automation, or require a “production” bagging system, we also offer used equipment which range in price based on the particular model, included options and current condition. While we offer “100% operational” equipment, we mostly sell factory rebuilt units, which is our preference. Depending on availability, some of these models are quick ship items. While we prefer to sell new equipment, rest assured that every used system is 100% guaranteed! We provide a one-year limited parts warranty on all used systems and support every machine sold as if it were new. Call our Technical Sales Department to discuss your equipment or bag requirements. Please submit any questions to MachSales@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Machine Sales). |
How will adding a machine instead of another person to the bagging operation improve my bottom line? |
Well, to be honest, not every opportunity provides the customer with reasonable payback on their equipment investment. If the volume of bags is sufficient and the increased production reduces labor costs to the extent pays for the equipment in a reasonable time (less than 2 years), then why wouldn’t you act quickly. Advanced Poly offers a payback analysis if you provide basic information regarding your current operation and complete our Product Evaluation form. Current operation information: 1) Number of personnel in your bagging operations – required information. 2) Total bags produced in one shift (or per hour) – required information. 3) Current rate per hour for bagging (or per minute). If not disclosed, we will use estimated rates. 4) Average hourly wage for bagging operations. If not disclosed, we will use estimated rates. We will plug in these numbers into our calculator, enter the value of the proposed system, and provide the payback in months and the costs comparison per month of your current operation and proposed operation. Please download the Product Evaluation form from our Downloads section and email MachSales@advancedpoly.com to request a payback analysis and a prompt quote for the system. We take the guess-work out of your decision process. And, if you already calculate payback information, you can simply use ours for comparison. Please call our technical machine department to discuss your application. We will provide a proposed method, equipment and materials to meet your requirements. Please submit any questions to MachSales@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Machine Sales). |
Can your equipment be used to package food products? |
The short answer is yes. But, we don't suggest our system or materials for all food products. Advanced Poly has provided solutions for many food applications. Frozen doughballs, specialty chocolates, popcorn, dried shrinp... comes to mind, but we don't specialize in food products like other equipment manufacturers. We also don't typically offer laminated, high barrier film with hermetic seals which is typically required for many foods to provide a good shelf life. We do, however, provide you with sample bags for your testing and specialty film data sheets. But, we rely on your testing of our materials and evaluation of our system so you can determine if our products are good fit. Because we provide "general purpose" bagging systems which are perfect for a variety of applications, we will not guarantee that our systems are "fit for purpose" for any specific food application. While we do have many customers in the food industry who do use our systems, they do so at their own risk, after taking due diligence to confirm both the package and the method/equipment meet all of their requirements. To discuss your application and for additional feedback, please contact our technical machine sales department. Please submit any questions to MachSales@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Machine Sales). |
Can I package powders using your products? |
Short and long answer is NO. Unfortunately, our equipment blows the bags open and powders will simply go everywhere. Our bags are not guaranteed not to leak air and those little particles tend to squeeze out of all kinds of little holes and gaps in the seals. We typically No Quote all such applications. |
Am I able to use my current label software with your machines? Or, could I send data directly from my ERP software to print on the bags? |
The biggest advantage that our systems have is that you can print directly onto the surface of the film. You don’t need to print on a label and they apply it. And, we incorporate Zebra components so their open source code (ZPL code) and be sent directly to the printer. Or, simply download one of their drivers and you can print from any Windows based software. Simply go to Zebra.com and download as many documents as you need which provide complete enterprise solutions for printing. During the installation, our Technical Support personnel will work with your IT personnel to perfectly integrate our bagging systems with whatever software you wish to use. While Advanced Poly sell Labelview, we also know the parameter settings required, in your current software to print to our systems, without having to purchase software. I don’t believe we have had any occasion where we had to sell new software to replace existing software. However, Zebra will provide many resources to answer all of your questions. That’s why we chose to partner with them well over 10 years ago. With worldwide support from Zebra, coupled with service and IT/technical support from Advanced Poly, there should no printing challenges which cannot be solved. |
Do you provide model that does not require air - all electric? |
Advanced Poly has produced all electric (airless) tabletop bagging systems. However, the models were found to be unreliable in opening the bag and sealing the bag. Performance was significantly sacrificed to 1/3 the speed. More importantly, the cost and complexity of the machine was significantly impacted. So, we decided that it is simply a bad idea! That short burst of air, which pops the bag open, can only be created from compressed air. The bag can then be held open with a very small volume of air. All of our baggers come with these two separate functions so the bags are quickly opened. This is the most efficient way that we have found to open the bag. We also found a much better solution – purchase a self-contained, quiet (office) compressor! These small units come in a case, have a handle and can be carried around like a suitcase. They are very quiet and if you don’t want to hear the hum you can put it in a closet. This solution allows you to have a system which cycles 3X faster, produces a much more consistent bagging operation, cost less, creates less maintenance, and is easy to operate! So, faster, less costly, less complex, more uptime… that’s why we don’t offer an all-electric bagger. Please call our Technical Sales Department to discuss your equipment or bagging material requirements. Please submit any questions to MachSales@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Machine Sales). |
Is your equipment capable of vacuum sealing? |
Simple answer – no, but do you need a vacuum sealed bag for shelf life (high barrier film, removed air, leakproof bag), or do you need a bagged product that minimal air to reduce packing? If for increased shelf like, the answer is still no. But, if you simply need to remove air to pack the bag(s) into a small container, to reduce space, then yes, or at least maybe (pending other considerations). To reduce the air, we offer several bag deflators. The simplest is a foam pad, mounted on a backing plate that pushes the air out of the bag during the seal cycle operation. We also have larger pneumatically bag deflators which push more air out of the bag, before the seal operation. All of our baggers are capable of shutting off the air before sealing. But, sometimes the bag does not deflate due to the product bulkiness, or simply due to the stiffness of the bag. However, bag deflator do a good job with pushing out the air. Another alternative is having vent holes in the bag. Then, there is no air trapped and thus, no packing issues. Advanced Poly produces bags with vent holes at no additional charge since vent holes assist in the winding process, decreasing the cost of production. To discuss your specific application, please call our Technical Sales Department. We may have a good solution for your application. Or, submit any questions to MachSales@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Machine Sales). |

What is largest bag that you can produce that will run through my machine? I have a T-1000-S14. |
The T-1000-S14 can accommodate bag sizes that range from 4" x 3" to 11" x 16" and mil thickness from 1 mil to 4 mils. The largest bag to the T-1000-S14 is 15" x 32", which APPI stocks as a Towel Bag. For the T-1000-S18, the largest bag is 18" x 36". It is important to understand that when bags this large are used with the system, additional options may be required to support the additional weight. These options would include Flat Seal Assembly (due to the added size and weight), and a Light Safety Curtain (if the bag is being loaded directly without the use of a funnel). |
What is the CFM (cubic feet per minute) air requirement for APP Baggers? |
Advanced Poly selects components with energy reduction in mind. We also program systems to automatically shut down to reduce energy and expense and reduction of CFM is a component which is shut down for conservation. We selected an Exair Venturi component which reduces the air consumption significantly. CFM varies for each application since the operator can adjust the volume of air required to initially blow open the bag as well as the volume to maintain the opening. Also, options ordered may reduce the volume of air. For instance, the BO-30 Bag Opening Device hold the bag open during loading so no air is required when the bag the bag open. Operators are trained to reduce the air volume to the minimum required to initially open the bag and maintain the opening and reduce air consumption. CFM for APP Baggers typically ranges from 2cfm to 3cfm at 60 psi, based on the options, settings and application. |

I am interested in an automatic parts counter to bag fastener kits, I need to bag and label the bags. My factory is in Poland. Do you sell in Poland? Who can service the machinery? |
Our Kit Systems include our models UC-2400 Parts Counter, UF-5000 Kit Conveyor, T-1000 Bagger, Ti-1000Z Printer and US-4000 Check-weigh Scale. Our systems are modular so you can start with an infeed conveyor with up to 10 parts counters, adding check-weighing capabilities later, for example. As a modular system, we suggest purchasing a conveyor long enough to add as many parts counters as you may need. We can also add shelving to the conveyor for ease of loading from bins. Folded instruction sheets can also be loaded directly into the bag with our folded sheet feeder. Advanced Poly provides Free product evaluations to determine the system components and specifications. We also provide estimated production speeds, bag sizes and funnels required for feeding your products. Simply send us samples of your finished bagged kits and we will provide a quote. Advanced Poly also offers more manual systems if your volume of bags is low. We have bags in stock and can ship in single roll quantities. We also stock thermal transfer ribbon so everything you need in your bagging operations can be supplied by us. Does Advanced Poly offer maintenance contracts and if so, how can I get a quote? |
Advanced Poly provides discounted (prepaid) maintenance contracts to customers who want the biggest bang for their buck. Discounts are as high as 50% off our standard labor rates when coupled with a bag contract. With a maintenance contract, you also receive a parts discounts. To receive a quote, please send a list of the equipment you would like included in the contract, the current condition of the equipment, the duration of the contract (typically one to three years) and approximate number of cycles (bags) per year. This will allow us not only to quote, but also provide a recommendation for the number of visits, number of personnel required for each visit and the site hours required. Many customers don’t realize that Advanced Poly offers discounts and incentives for bag contract customers. Customers who place blanket orders receive service discounts and very high-volume users receive extended warranties year after year simply for ordering bags! Call our Machine Sales Department to discuss special incentives and discount programs offered by Advanced Poly. I have a T-1000 bagger with Ti-1000 printer. I run the system 24/7 at 10-15 bags per minute. What maintenance schedules should I anticipate? |
With proper maintenance, customers operate the equipment well past the 10,000,000 cycle, 10 year anticipated life cycle of the machinery. Printers require additional attention due to print head cleaning, replacement and alignment (wear item). Advanced Poly has suggested maintenance intervals in our manuals (available for download in our Downloads Section), but we recommend preventive maintenance every 1,000,000 cycles (based on environmental conditions). Based on your cycle rate and hours per day, and based on a 50 minute hour, you could produce 18,000 cycles per day, or over 6 million cycles per year. We would suggest taking the equipment out of service every 8 weeks, for approximately 4 hours. Preventive maintenance includes a cylinder rebuilt kit for the main seal cylinder and seal bar cyclinders. Other than that, it mostly inspection and if needed replacement of parts such as the main drive roller, print / platen roller and possibly the print head. Our machines are design so that any service item replaced within 15 minutes. And, customer report to us that their machines have in excess of 30,000,000 cycles and show up to work every day! Advanced Poly also has programs where you can send us your machine for a complete service PM, and we offer loaner equipment while your machine is at APP (subject to availability). Call our Service Department to discuss your maintenance requirements. Please submit any questions to Service@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Service). |
What is the cost of maintenance per year for a bagging system from Advanced Poly? |
Customers report spending approximately $150 per year on normal wear items such as Teflon, rubber strips and possibly a replacement drive roller every few years. Printers cost a little more due to the price of the print head, but if cleaned often can run for millions of linear inches. Advanced Poly offers incentives for bag contract customers (annual or multi-year blanket orders). Some high-volume customer have had 10 year warranties since APP keeps renewing the warranty for them. Other incentives, which significantly reduce costs of maintenance, include prepaid Maintenance Contracts which offer up to 50% savings, and guarantee increased up-time. Call our Service Department to discuss your maintenance requirements. Please submit any questions to Service@advancedpoly.com, or use the Contact Us form (Service). |
However, www.Zebra.com will provide many resources to answer all of your questions. That’s why we chose to partner with them well over 10 years ago. With worldwide support from Zebra, coupled with service and IT/technical support from Advanced Poly, there should no printing challenges which cannot be solved. |
